About

From Bella Online:

“The term shotgun, when used in golf, means a style of tournament. Most tournaments, like the Masters, use a normal starting style. Groups of golfers take turns going to the first hole, and then when that group moves on to the second hole, another group starts at the first hole.

However, for a tournament that wants to run more quickly, like a company picnic, they take a shotgun approach. That has all groups on the course at the exact same time, each starting at a different hole. So one group starts at hole 1, another group at hole 2, another group at hole 3, and so on. The groups then all cycle around, with groups going from hole 18 (the last hole) back to hole 1 to finish off the ones they skipped.”

Also famous as Hunter S Thompson’s last published piece of writing, as seen on ESPN - “Shotgun Golf with Bill Murray”:

HST: “I’m working on a profoundly goofy story here. It’s wonderful. I’ve invented a new sport. It’s called Shotgun Golf. We will rule the world with this thing.”

BILL: “Mmhmm.”

HST: “I’ve called you for some consulting advice on how to launch it. We’ve actually already launched it. Last spring, the Sheriff and I played a game outside in the yard here. He had my Ping Beryllium 9-iron, and I had his shotgun, and about 100 yards away, we had a linoleum green and a flag set up. He was pitching toward the green. And I was standing about 10 feet away from him, with the alley-sweeper. And my objective was to blow his ball off course, like a clay pigeon.”
